Co-Signed
Medium: Mixed media paintings
Dimensions: Variable’
Collection: Private collections
The Co-Signed paintings represent a partnership between an artist and scores of unnamed, unknowing individuals whose thoughts were broadcast to the world through handmade signs and overheard conversations.
I collect these manifestations of thought and repurpose them in paintings exhibiting an array materials and techniques. By placing the found language in new contextual environments, allowing for fresh interpretations of the words to arise.
Through painting, these found words transform and take on new meanings. I guide the conversation through color and material choices, yet my aim is simply to create a foundation where viewers can develop their own interpretations and explore the nuances of language and communication—with perhaps a touch of humor along the way.
Co-Signed recycles words, but it does not replicate the original work. These paintings bear little visual resemblance to the source material they draw from. These paintings are not possible without the ingenuity of others. They are truly collaborative. Even if only one side of the equation knows it, they’re Co-Signed.
