This concept originated from a community-driven art project called Stitch. Some time passed and the team at American Underground approached me about creating an installation for their flagship location's entryway on Main Street in Durham, NC. I knew this piece would be perfect — it would inspire entrepreneurs entering AU@Main with pride in their city while capturing the daily spirit of their hustle. Being an entrepreneur requires both thick skin and a tough stomach — durability for the long haul. When these qualities combine, they create something new. For the visual element, I used a vintage map of downtown Durham to showcase the Bull City's rich history of innovation and entrepreneurship. The spray paint shapes and drips were created specifically for this piece, while the cross-stitch lettering makes a bold statement at this scale while maintaining a handcrafted feel. This handmade quality captures Durham's entrepreneurial spirit — grassroots, hands-on, and built from the ground up.
